SPECIAL NOTE TO OUR INTERNATIONAL FAMILY

Dear friends,

I'm sure none of us will be quite the same after the recent tragedy of September 11th. Those events have made us more deeply aware of what a wonderful privilege it is to be a part of our big International family. It also makes us more appreciative than ever for the love and friendship we have experienced with people from all over the world. We do not have all the answers as to why things happened that day and what solutions can prevent it in the future. However, we feel stronger than ever the importance of a loving friendship and respect to all who are part of our dear International family. We look forward to gathering again and singing our wonderful theme song of ISF. Perhaps the message of this song does indeed represent the best hope for all our futures!

God loves people any shape, any color, any size.
You don't have to be an angel
to be very special in his eyes.
He said it in John 3:16,
and He proved it on Calvary too.
God loves people, ordinary people,
people like me and you.

LETTER FROM THE ISF ASSISTANT
Dear International Friend,

Greetings to all our International friends! Whether you are still in the USA or if you have gone back to your homeland our thoughts are with you and we hope you are doing well. Our Newsletter goes out to many different countries so no matter where you live we still consider you a part of our International family. This is really one of the most beautiful times of the year in Pittsburgh. The air has a coolness after the summer heat and the scenery around us is starting to display God's beautiful creation with the changing of the colors of the leaves.

Our friends in Canada, a neighbor country will celebrate their Thanksgiving this month. Also October 1st of this year was both the celebration of National Day and Moon Festival in China. These two special holidays only occur at the same time once every 19 years. In 1984 on October 9th, Dr. Kathy Sullivan was the first woman to walk in space. U.S. Air Force Capt. Chuck Yeager was the first to fly faster than the speed of sound on October 14th, 1947. In 1879 during this month Thomas Edison demonstrated the incandescent electric light. October 27th, 1938 marked the date when Dupont announced the invention of nylon, which was named for New York and London. What a different world we live in compared to that of our grandparents. Many helpful inventions have made the world a better place to live in and we are surrounded by many conveniences to make life more enjoyable.

We look forward to seeing you at our October monthly gathering at the William Pitt Union. More than ever, these times of coming together as an International family are so important. This gathering will be on Friday, October 19th, 7:30 PM in the beautiful Ballroom of the William Pitt Union. The William Pitt Union is located in Oakland on the corner of Bigelow and Fifth Avenue. To get to the Ballroom, use the entrance on Fifth Avenue and then follow the signs.

At this gathering there will be an interesting lecture I'm sure you will enjoy. Of course there will good music and the traditional ISF full course dinner. There will be children's activities in the Kurtzman Room, and that wonderful International fellowship. Please plan to come and invite your friends. It's all free!

We look forward to seeing you on October 19th!

SEPTEMBER ISF GATHERING

NO GREATER LOVE

The doctor looked down at the little girl in the hospital bed. He knew that her only hope was to receive blood from someone who had recovered from the same disease. Quickly the doctor found the anxious family, and knelt beside a small boy. "Johnny," he said, "your sister needs your kind of blood to make her well. Would you be willing to give your blood so that she can live?" Johnny's eyes grew big. The doctor watched them fill with fear, but the little boy hesitated only long enough to swallow the lump in his throat. "Sure, Doctor, I will do it," he replied. After the needed amount of blood was taken from Johnny's small arm, he remained quiet for a few minutes as he had been instructed. Then he stood up, and asked softly: "Well, Doctor, when do I die?" Only then did the doctor realize the extent of the child's sacrifice. Johnny had offered his life to save his sister. Jesus declared that there is no greater love. Greater love than this no man has, that a man lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13).
