I MAY-JUNE 2002
ETERNAL VALUES
I
received an e-mail recently from my niece in Texas with this assignment:
"In one sentence or less what's the most important thing you have
learned in life." Trying to really assess the most important thing
let alone to summarize it in a concise manner is not as easy as you
may think. What would your response have been? Depending on your age
and position at this current time your answer would probably differ
from others. Young children may respond that obeying their parents is
very important not only for safety but to develop a bond of trust and
love. A teenager my say that doing your best in school to assure a bright
future is vitally important. Some young person just starting off on
their career may tell you that skill, integrity and character are the
things that will help you to advance. Someone who has reached the age
I have has certainly at one point felt that all of the above are worthy
responses and that they will help to make not only your life better,
but the lives around you better also. I thought about that question.
Each day I live brings me closer to eternity. That's a sobering thought.
What is most important to me will affect the way I am living. After
some thought, I came up with this reply. "Eternal values are what
count." My eternal values, the ones that are important now,
will prepare me for eternity. My attitude towards God and my fellow
man, obeying God's laws not only for my good but also for the good of
others has helped me to live a life pleasing to God. None of us knows
when we will stand before our great Creator God. May I encourage you
to live every day with "Eternity's values as your guide."
LETTER
FROM THE ISF ASSISTANT
Dear
International Friend,
Once again we send greetings to you and hope that you are well and that
you are enjoying this time of the year. It is a welcome relief after a
long winter to be able to enjoy the warm weather and to be able to spend
more time in the outdoors. I have been thinking of all the wonderful things
God has given us. All of His creation seems to be a testimony of His wonderful
power and love for us. It certainly would be a different world if there
were no seasons. Who can deny that God has given us many good benefits
and that every day is a gift from God?
Did you know that the human brain can hold 500 times the information in
a set of the Encyclopedia Britannica? Think about this: the human thigh
bones are stronger than concrete. When you are born you have 300 bones,
but when you become an adult, you only have 206. A sneeze travels out
of your mouth at over 100 miles per hour. Every person has a unique tongue
print just like fingerprints.
Our June ISF Gathering will be on Friday, June 7th, 7:30 PM
in the beautiful Ballroom of the William Pitt Union. The
William Pitt Union is located in Oakland on the corner of Bigelow and
5th. Avenue. To get to the Ballroom, use the entrance on 5th. Avenue and
then follow the signs.
We missed having our monthly gathering in the month of May. As many of
you know, my wife Pam had surgery at the beginning of May and she has
been getting stronger each day. She is looking forward to seeing you at
this gathering. It will be good to resume our regular schedule of meeting
each month. Also, with Mother's Day in May and Father's Day in June, we
hope to honor all the mothers and fathers in attendance at this gathering.
If you know of someone who we could honor please invite him or her to
attend in June.
Yes, of course there will also be a full course dinner, good music, special
children's activities in the Kurtzman Room, but especially good International
fellowship. It's all free, so do plan to come and invite your friends.
Hope to see you on June 7th!

TAKE
TIME:
Take time to think - it is
the source of power.
Take time to be friendly - it is the road to happiness.
Take time to love - it is a God given privilege.
Take time to pray - it is the greatest power on earth.
Take time to give - life is too short to be selfish.
PROFOUND QUESTIONS

"For
what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and
loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for
his soul? " (Matt.

THE
DIARY OF SIR WALTER SCOTT
The
last words in the diary of Sir Walter Scott were: "Tomorrow we shall…"But
there was no tomorrow for him. He died with good intentions to accomplish
a certain goal - a goal that was neither stated in his diary nor accomplished
by him. Every person has goals and dreams that he or she longs for, plans
for, and even begins to reach for-yet there are many people who fall short
of their goals simply because of limited time or opportunity. And that
is why it is always important to get busy and do the right thing immediately.
Never delay that which needs to be done today. Preparing for eternity
should never be delayed.
