A FATHER’S HELP

A little boy sat frustrated and near tears. He was trying to build a toy wagon, but he just could not get the wheels to go on. His dad came along, took the wagon and the four wheels and, in to time at all, had it rolling smoothly along. The boy was grateful for the loving and helpful touch his father added to his life. Though he is no longer a child, he still remembers his father's help that day. It has been said that any man can be a father but it takes a special kind of man to be a Dad! The ideal father does more than simply have a part in the procreation of the child; he helps to mold the child throughout his growing years through generous amounts of love, guidance, forgiveness and praise. Fortunate are those who have had a father with whom they had such a personal relationship. Whether or not this has been the case for you, this much is for certain: we can all experience the ultimate father-child relationship when we experience God as our heavenly Father.

A FATHER'S GIFT

Our children need both knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is found in textbooks. Wisdom, on the other hand, is found in God's Holy Word, the Bible, and in the carefully chosen words of loving parents and thoughtful teachers. When we give our children the gift of knowledge, we do them a wonderful service. But, when we share the gift of wisdom, we offer a timeless treasure that surpasses knowledge and reshapes eternity.

LETTER FROM THE ISF ASSISTANTS
Dear International Friend,

Warm summer greetings to you from International Student Fellowship!

Summer vacation is upon us. Depending on where you are from, this may be the best time of the year for you. If you come from a warm climate you have probably been waiting for the temperatures to go up so you could finally feel warm again. Throughout the summer several holidays are observed. The first one was at the end of May when we celebrated Memorial Day, honoring and remembering those who served their country and those who gave their lives to protect it. Then on June 17th, we will celebrate Father's Day. My father who will be 85 in September is one of the most important people in my life. I love and honor him with not only the respect that God commands but because he has had such an influence on me. I pray for him daily and ask God to watch over him and protect him.

One of the founding fathers of our country, George Washington, considered the front parlor of the mansion to be “the best room in my house.” The Washingtons frequently entertained guests in this formal space by serving coffee, tea and punch. There were several punch bowls in the household including an early Qianlong (1736-1795) with fanciful famille rose decoration. This is perhaps the oldest piece of Chinese porcelain owned by the Washingtons .

The date of the June ISF Gathering will be on Friday, June 17th at 7:30 PM in the beautiful Ballroom of the William Pitt Union. The William Pitt Union is located in Oakland on the corner of Bigelow and Fifth Avenue. To get to the Ballroom, use the entrance on Fifth Avenue and then follow the signs. At this gathering we will have a special tribute the fathers in attendance and a small gift for each one. We also hope to have an interesting lecture, special music and warm fellowship along with our full course meal. The children will be having special activities in the Kurtzman room. It's all free!

We look forward to seeing you on Friday, June 17th!

" And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord."                                                       (Ephesians 6:4)

CONTENTMENT

The preoccupation with happiness and contentment is an ever-present theme in the modern world. We are bombarded with messages that tell us where to find peace and pleasure in a world that worships materialism and wealth. But, lasting contentment is a spiritual gift from God to those who trust in Him and follow His commandments. When God dwells at the center of our lives, peace and contentment will belong to us just as surely as we belong to God.
