A PARABLE

AAn old parable says, “A silly servant who is told to open the door sets his shoulder to it and pushes with all his might; but the door stirs not, and he cannot enter, use what strength he may. Another comes with a key and easily unlocks the door and enters right away.” Those who would be saved by works are pushing at heaven's gate without result; but faith is the key that opens the gate at once.

SALVATION

A little boy came running into the house after playing outside. His mother stopped him and asked what was on his right hand. He replied, “Oh, just a little mud.” His mother than asked if he was planning on getting it off his hand. He thought for a moment and said, “Sure, Mom. I'll just wipe it off with the other hand.” There was only one problem with the plan, one dirty hand plus one clean hand equals two dirty hands. Many people are like that little boy, they see the evil and wrongs in their life and think they can make themselves clean by bringing the good in their life to bear on the problem. But it doesn't work that way. We all need a way to be made morally and spiritually clean, and we will never succeed in doing it ourselves. The only solution is to be found in the blood of Jesus Christ, which cleanses us from all of our sins.

A SURE SALVATION

Several years ago one of the astronauts who walked on the moon was interviewed and asked, “What did you think about as you stood on the moon and looked back at the earth?” The astronaut replied, “I remembered how the spacecraft was built by the lowest bidder.” The Christian can rejoice that the work of salvation did not go to the “lowest bidder” but was performed by an infinite God. There will never be a deficiency in his work. Our salvation is as sure as the architect of that salvation, Almighty God.
