I AUGUST 2009
ALWAYS HERE
|
In the quiet early morning, as the sun’s first rays stream over the horizon, we may sense the presence of God. But as the day wears on and the demands of everyday life bear down upon us, we may become so wrapped up in earthly concerns that we forget to praise the Creator.
God is everywhere we have ever been and everywhere we will ever be. When we turn to Him often, we are blessed by His presence. But, if we ignore God’s presence or rebel against it altogether, the world in which we live soon becomes a spiritual confusion.
Since God is everywhere, we are free to sense His presence whenever we take the time to quiet our souls and turn our prayers to Him. But sometimes, amid the incessant demands of everywhere life, we turn our thoughts far from God; when we do, we suffer. Do you set aside quiet moments each day to offer praise to your Creator? You should. During these moments of stillness, you can sense the infinite love and power of our Lord. The familiar words of Psalm 46:10 remind us to “Be still, and know that I am God” (KJV). When we do so, we encounter the awesome presence of our loving Heavenly Father.
Are you tired, discouraged, or fearful? Be comforted because God is with you. Are you confused? Listen to the quiet voice of your Heavenly Father. Are you bitter? Talk with God and seek His guidance. Are you celebrating a great victory? Thank God and praise Him. He is the giver of all things good. In whatever condition you find yourself-whether you are happy or sad, victorious or vanquished, troubled or triumphant-celebrate God’s presence. And be comforted in the knowledge that God is not just near. He is here.

God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
Come, behold the works of the LORD,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
will be exalted in the earth!”

LETTER FROM THE ISF DIRECTORS
Dear International Friend,
This year is going by so quickly. It seems like just yesterday that we were planning for our annual cookout for 2008 and here we are getting ready for this annual event once again. One of the things that concerns anyone who is having a cookout is the weather. Although no one can predict just what the day will be like, we have to admit to you that we hope it doesn’t rain. Another concern is that it won’t be too hot. We hope that a nice summer day with no rain and low heat and humidity will come our way the day of the cookout. We would also like to challenge anyone who is planning to come to invite a friend. Schenley Park is a beautiful location in the City of Pittsburgh. One of the things many people enjoy about our parks is the amount and variety of trees that can be enjoyed. So if you are looking for a day to be outdoors and to meet some new friends please come and join us.

August 14th ISF Cook-out
We would like to invite you to our August ISF Cook-out on Friday, August 14th at the Vietnam Veteran’s Pavilion in Schenley Park. The pavilion will be open at 3:00 PM and the picnic meal will be served at around 6:00 PM. This is always the ultimate summer “family time” and it’s all free. So please invite your friends. Even if you don’t usually eat meat, there will be plenty of other food for you to enjoy. If you like, feel free to bring something from your own country to add to the table. There will also be games and swings, etc. for all to enjoy. At around 5:45 PM we will pick up any who need a ride in the ISF van at the side of Hillman Library.
