DIFFERENT GIFTS, DIFFERENT STRENGTHS

A concert violinist had a brother who was a bricklayer. One day a woman said to the bricklayer, “It must be wonderful to be in a family with such a famous violinist.” Then, not wanting to insult the bricklayer, she said, “Of course we don’t all have the same talents, and even in a family, some just seem to have more talent than others.”

The bricklayer said, “You’re telling me! That violinist brother of mine doesn’t know a thing about laying bricks. And if he couldn’t make some money playing that fiddle of his, he couldn’t hire a guy with know-how like mine to build a house. If he had to build a house himself he’d be ruined.”

If you want to build a house, you don’t want a violinist. And if you’re going to lead an orchestra, you don’t want a bricklayer.
No two of us are exactly alike. None of us has every gift and ability. Our responsibility is to exercise the gifts we have, not the ones we wish we had.

And when it comes to making decisions about your own life and the direction it should take, focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses. Know yourself. Know what you do well, and then go with your strengths and shore up your weaknesses.

A Note from Pam

Every one of has been created with different gifts. We all have strengths and weaknesses. When we come to God in a humble way we can ask Him to show us what His purpose for our life is and allow Him to show us in what way we can serve Him and be used by Him. God has a plan for our lives. He wants us to be useful to Him and to be a help to our fellow man. Take time today to focus on what God wants for your life.

GIVING

Nothing is really ours until we share it.
                                                                                                            --C. S. Lewis

The wise man does not lay up treasure. The more he gives the more he has.
                                                                                                            --Chinese proverb

A cup that is already full cannot have more added to it. In order to receive the further good to which we are entitled, we must give of that which we have.
                                                                                                            --Margaret Becker

He gives double who gives unasked..
                                                                                                            --Arabian proverb

The world says, the more you take, the more you have. Christ says, the more you give, the more you are.
                                                                                                            --Frederick Buechner

It more blessed to give than to receive.
                                                                                                            --Acts 20:35 NKJV

LETTER FROM THE ISF DIRECTORS
Dear International Friend,

Summer greetings to you from International Student Fellowship.

We hope you are enjoying the summer weather. Along with the warm days there will be a lot of hot days. The Pittsburgh climate can be very interesting but for the most part summertime is a great time to be outdoors enjoying not only the city parks but the state parks. Maybe you can make it a goal this year to visit a new park. Each one is unique in its scenery. Since Memorial Day officially started the summer season we hope you will enjoy this time of the year no matter where you are.

When we went to visit some friends in Toronto over the Memorial Day weekend we had a chance to visit the Toronto Zoo and walk along the shore of Lake Ontario. We came to the conclusion that Toronto is so interesting because of its cultural diversity. There are people from so many different places. We made a little game of trying to decide where someone came from by listening to their speech. What a challenge and no doubt we guessed wrong several times but it was fun anyway.

We had a chance to honor mothers, women, and graduates at our last gathering. At our next gathering in June we would like to take time to honor the men and fathers in attendance. We hope you can come and ask you to invite a friend.

--Terry & Pam Tiberio, ISF Directors
